School District of Westfield successfully produces and uses biodiesel in school vehicles.

The School District of Westfield Transportation Department is proud to announce that it has successfully manufactured over 250 gallons of usable biodiesel within the last 3 weeks. This biodiesel is currently being used in 3 school buses, 2 Grasshopper lawn mowers, a Ford dump truck and a John Deere tractor.  We are currently blending the biodiesel with petrodiesel to create: B98 (98% biodiesel and 2% petrodiesel) which is used in the buses, Grasshopper mowers & tractor and B50 (50% biodiesel and 50% petrodiesel) which is used in the dump truck. B20 (20% biodiesel and 80% petrodiesel) will be used when the temperature regularly is 45F and lower.

So far the results have been excellent with no problems to report with any of the equipment running B98 or other blends of biodiesel. The buses and mowers actually run smoother with the same amount of power & fuel mileage and the exhaust smells similar to someone grilling meat!

I would like to personally thank the following sponsors for all of their help by donating oil and other needed items:
Brakebush Bros.
Arevalo's Hot Dogs
Pioneer Restaurant
Folstrom's Food & Fuel
Oxford Fuel & Food
Village Inn

The Transportation Department will be having an Open House on Saturday, August 16 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM to demonstrate the advancements of not only the production and use of biodiesel, but also all improvements that have been made within the department as a whole. Food and refreshments will be provided.
